HORTI ASIA – The International Tradeshow for Horticultural & Floricultural Production and Processing Technology, was firstly launched in Bangkok, Thailand in the year 2012. The profile of the trade fair covers the full supply chain of the industry, including topics as breeding and seeding technologies, fertilizers, planting and cultivation technology, climate control equipment, grading and greenhouse equipment, packaging, certification, terminals and ports, as well as warehouse facilities for fruits, vegetables and flowers. The objective of the show is to provide solutions for the horticulture industry in order to reduce the production cost and increase in quality & yield. HORTI ASIA has become the fastest growing international event for horticulture in Southeast Asia.

HORTI ASIA is supported by the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and well-known organizations such as the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) 

 

The trade fair are jointly organized by the DLG – German Agricultural Society and the Dutch-Thai exhibition organizer VNU Asia Pacific.  
 

The market

Southeast Asia’s agricultural sector is a promising market for international companies. The market has great potential as labor shortages and the need for higher crop yields lead to further mechanization and more efficient use of resources and smart solutions.

The growing middle class is increasing the demand for high quality fresh produce. Added to this is the general population growth in the ASEAN region, which is boosting the export of agricultural products with high safety and quality standards. For example, Thailand is already ranked number 1 in Vietnam as the main importer of fruits and vegetables.

The Thai Government is making considerable efforts to meet the increasing demand for food / fresh produce. Promotional measures are, for example, the education and training of farmers, the merging of smallholder farms into so-called cluster farms for more efficient use of modern technology and equipment, the provision of loans and the focus on smart agriculture. Furthermore, rice should no longer be by far the largest produced crop in Thailand. The government already supports the cultivation of other crops as well as vegetables and fruits with higher sales margins.

Similar developments can be seen in most countries of Southeast Asia. Therefore, it is likely that the proportion of vegetables and fruits produced in the region will continue to increase. In 2014, 75% of global vegetable production and 66% of global fruit production came from the Asia-Pacific region. The region benefits from the geographic position and the corresponding climate. The Southeast Asian region as a sales market is becoming increasingly interesting.
